Question:

What Can I Do About Slugs In The House?

I have an old victorian house. Every evening when it is dark slugs appear in my basement kitchen. I am not sure where they are coming from, whether it is from outside or whether it is from cracks around pipework from the space under the floorboards under the house.

I do know they turn me up. Not only do I find them crawling round the floor they even get up on the work surfaces.

I have a dog so cannot leave a lot of poisonous stuff laying around. Also I dont want poison in the kitchen particularly. Does anyone have any suggestions for a possible solution?

  1. They really are annoying altho i don't think they every harm anything.  Beer kills them.  Outside you set a bowl into the ground so the slugs don't have to go over the "lip" of the bowl. I don't know how you'd get the beer low enuf so they will climb into it.

  2. They like moisture, I would start by looking for leaks in any of the plumbing. Do you have any exterior leaks where water can get in? I heard the like beer place in saucers, I have never tried it , the drawback is you may end up with an alcoholic dog.

  3. Get a beer bottle and leave it where they can get to it, but make sure it has about a centimeter of beer still in it - Slugs LOVE beer, but once they get to it, they drown. You won't catch any of them right away - but once they find the bottle(s) they will go right inside and drown!

    Good Luck
