i have a boston terrier named lucy, we got her from a friend of the family because a different one of there dogs had puppies and they had to get rid of her, so we took her in. She was pregnant once and had complications with it, and had to have one of her puppies removed via c section, and ever since she had been afraid of everything, what can i do to help her not be so shaky and nervous and afraid?

  1. A lot of together time, holding her, petting, and treats will do the trick.

  2. try spending more time with her. Dogs usually get calm when they feel safe. just cuddle with her. Show her effection. If she isn't ready to interact with dogs then don't force her, just be soft and always talk to her in a kind soft voice. i'm sure that within weeks she will be up on her feet and feel great. she just needs to get used to life without her baby.

  3. Perhaps she wasn't treated as nicely as those previous owners made out! A simple c-section wouldn't traumatise her like that, vet's are very careful to minimise the head damage a c-section could cause so my guess is its a previous owner/s that haven't been too kind to her! You can change all of that with simple steps - allowing her to be herself sometimes ( we all have off days! ), showing her that she needn't be afraid to make a mistake now and then, lots of cuddles and 'just-you-two times, playing ball when she wants or just being quiet in front of the TV, it'll all help in making her your dog and helping her to forget the bad and sad times in her life. Bless you for giving her a good home, you'll be rewarded greatly once she settles down! Good luck.

  4. aww :( just give her a lot of love

  5. These type off dogs need LOTS OF ATTENTION!  They need to be shown love, and praise them for every good thing they do. I feed my boston marrow bones as rewards for doing good deeds, such as pottying outside, etc. And remember, these dogs don't like to be left alone. they need companions, such as other pets, and they love kids!!

  6. Keep your environment at home calm. I know my dogs don't do well with sudden noises. Gently pet your dog and speak to her in a calm voice. Take her for walks in an area where there will not be a lot of people around.

  7. Have the vet check her out - and ask about her blood calcium level.  It's something that could possibly make her nervous, although there might be something in her past or her breeding that makes her that way as well.

Ask the vet if she could have some Content-Um, which is safe and effective for many dogs, and might allow her to calm down a little and learn about the world in such a way that made her more confident.

It might help for you to take her to obedience class, and be a very strong but kind leader.  She may not be used to being the only dog in a house by herself, but with some experience she might gain confidence.  Ask the trainer to help you socialize her a little better - it sounds like she has been kept out of circulation for too long.

  8. well first u need to get her spayed if she hasnt been already.  then just take time with her.  it will take her some time to get use to her new enviroment.  just be patient with her.  but please get her spayed.  if she had complications in her first pregnancy she shouldnt get pregnant again and she is at risk of having a pyometra which in laymans terms it means that her uterus becomes just a big pus sack and it is very VERY dangerous!!  it may also calm her down.  not to mention she will have her chances of cancer cut down significantly, and extend her life.  also dont spoil her with food.  most people make that mistake and try to make them feel more comfortable with food to get them to like them.  they are just like us, if we eat more than we should, we get fat.  dont do that.. please.
