I'm terrified of heights and I have a 7 hour plan ride to look forward to tomorrow. What can I do to feel better about it? I'm always convinced that we're going to crash, taking off freaks me out.

What can I do?

  1. It's called a B-A-R, where they sell adult beverages. Visit one at an airport near you.

You thumbs down people need to get a life...

  2. relax! breath.... have a drink or read a book or something! it's safer than driving. i used to be scared of flying too but now i like it

  3. This question always reminds me of a little sign that used to be, and may even still be, posted at the road exiting from Tradewind Airport, a small general aviation airport in Amarillo, TX.  A fair paraphrase is:

"You are about to begin the most DANGEROUS phase of your journey...travel on an American highway!"

Good luck on your travels to and from the airports.

  4. you have 3 options

option 1: try another means of transportation

option 2: get drunk during the flight

option 3: close your eyes until the plane has reached the altitude

and then open your eyes, its not that scary

  5. Alcohol works well in situations like this...if not try Drammamine-it's used for motion sickness.

  6. The statistics that you will be in a plane crash or ridiculous. You are WAY WAY more likely to be injured in a car accident. In all honesty if you are afraid to fly you should NEVER get into a car!  I have flown many times and I what I do when I start to feel a little anxious is close my eyes and picture a nice, sturdy, solid place that isn't moving. Like the beach, or a forest. Something I can hold on to. Once it's moving you really can't do anything about it. Take a book with you or something that you really really enjoy doing and start doing it as soon as you sit in your seat. Get absorbed in it since it usually takes a while to taxi and get ready for lift off. If you can get lost in your activity you may pay less attention to the plane. Or try to sleep. Find some sort of ritual you can do before flights that make you feel better. I transfer a good luck kiss to the outside of the plane as I enter it and again when I leave it. I just kiss my hand and smack it on the plane as I go by. Giving it a "GOOD LUCK KISS" and then "THANK GOD WE MADE IT KISS"! Hope this helps!

  7. Go sky diving

  8. Why not look that fear head on.  Ask yourself why and what is it that drives you to be so afraid.  Why not reason and rationalize the fact that if the plane go's down you are so dead!  But the chances of that happening are slim..   So, at least you are not lying to yourself.  Be realistic about what a plane flight could mean. It could mean the end, but it can alos mean nothing but a regular old plane flight that happens every hour...   This approach has always worked for me..

  9. Look it up on the net better answers can be found.

  10. say a little prayer. Let the flight attendeds know and many times they will help you get through the situations. If all else fells as soon as you get on the plane listen to music close your eyes and think about all the great things you have to llok foward too.

    Good luck
