What Can I Do With A TIVO Series 2 and no service account ??

Question

I have a series 2 TiVO PVR and i don't want to pay for a TiVO service account i think its a rip paying for guide info.

I am a computer tech, so i was wondering what cool things i could do with the hardware, theres not much too technical for me so i want to see what some people have to say.

with the Series 1 Tivo. it was possible to use it like a VCR and just record stuff by time and channel.

However the Series 2 and Series 3 Tivos do nothing without a current service account.

without the service account, a TIVO is a expensive paper weight.

Contrary to what a previous answerer said... you can use the series 2 to record by time and channel without a service account. (just like a VCR) $12.95 a month isn't bad in my opinion for the service. You never miss a show! I love my Tivo.

You can record by time and channel on a series one TiVo but they disabled that ability on the series two and three.

You can watch any shows you have already recorded on it but that is about it.

I have a series two that we dropped the subscription on and before we did I loaded it with good movies. We still watch a movie on it occasionally.
