What Can I do with my broken CRT monitor?

I read there was a new EU directive about getting rid of IT waste in a safe way,but the people at the council don't know anything about it and searching the web,I could only find people who want to be PAID to take it (and alot of money,too!)

Is there no other way?

I don't know about over in the EU, but here in the states most areas have a hazardous waste recycling facility where you take anything from motor oil to old electronics. In my city, you can drop off a certain amount for free per year, but are charged beyond that. If they are charging you, then that is just part of the cycle of owning a consumer good and being a responsible human being. In a broad sense, it makes people think before just junking something and buying new. Although, I realize that in your particular case, its legitimately broken, but many times people just want to trade up and don't want to be responsible for the product they have already purchased.

I would check with your council again, or ask around in your town. I would assume anything like that is going to be very specific to your country/ county/ city or town.

Recycling IT bits and pieces hasn't reached everywhere yet. Maybe one day it will. But until then, if it was in your local area you'd be aware of it or be able to find out more than you have so far. Sadly the only option appears to be the garbage for it right now.

You can try visiting a nearby IT/electronics/computer shop and ask them if they know about a nearby electronic disposal facility. They might be a good place to ask since they probably deal with leftover electronics quite often.
