  1. Firstly, dwarf hamsters shouldn't be fed any kind of sugary foods. This means you should avoid most store-bought treats, all fruits, and any sugary veggies like carrots, corn, beets, etc.

Secondly, you should restrict foods that make them fat, like seeds, nuts, etc.

Thirdly, anything that comes from outside has the potential to be carrying pesticides, chemicals, or parasites/funguses. If you can't wash it really well, then don't give it to your pet.

Now if you have made sure that your hamster is on a well-balanced healthy diet, it's okay to give them sugary foods a few times a week. A bit of carrot here and a raisin there isn't going to kill them. But watch for the signs of diabetes, and try to find healthy substitutes for sugary foods.

Leafy green veggies like romaine and kale lettuce (not iceburg lettuce), the green carrot tops, or bell peppers or broccoli would be great! A daily hamster diet should consist of mostly grains and seeds with a little leafy veggies on the sides.

  2. here are the things that it can eat

    1.bird food

    2.hamster food

here are the things that it can't eat

    1.grass

    2.rabbit food

  3. You are right about peanut butter. It is definitely not good for a hamster as it can get stuck in their cheek pouches and cause impacted pouches. I have warned in so many columns in yahoo answers where contributors say that they feed peanut butter to their hamsters.

I would not give them grass picked from gardens / lawns since again, we would not be able to differentiate between the toxic and non toxic grass variety.

Carrots are good for hamsters as treats. They only have natural sugar and is not harmful for hamsters. What hamsters should not be given is overly sugary foods, especially the processed ones, where sugar is added to a natural food, eg - sugared rice krispies or chocolates.

The below link would give you a list of all the foods you can and cannot feed your dwarf hamster. You can take a printout of it and tape it onto a board for easy reference.
