  1. There is nothing more important to the advancement of society than even an Associates Degree in Women's Studies.  Gender and Women's studies is the greatest thing that one can major in.  The idea of getting any degree other than one in Gender & Ladies Studies is absurd.  This is the best thing that anyone can do with their life.

I adore nothing more than my pursuit of my scientific research in Gender and Women's Studies, I love this more than life itself.

Gender & Women's Studies cures cancer.

  2. What about the degree makes it intriguing to you?  You should think about it in reverse: what job do you want, and then find the right degree.  There really isn't a huge need for women's studies majors, but you may be able to find a university teaching job.  They are few and far between, so you must be willing to relocate.  Also, with just a master's you may have to teach part-time as an adjunct faculty member or at a community college.  Neither of those jobs pay overly well.

My advice: talk to your adviser before you spend so much time and money on your masters

  3. you can use it as a placemat

  4. Trust me. You DO need a PhD to teach. My good friend won a scholarship and finished her masters, and while doing her masters she was able to become a TA at my state university, and while doing her final year masters thesis she was allowed to teach one class (she as lucky). But as far as teaching goes, you do need to be in a PhD, they allowed her only because she was going to do her PhD which she currently is doing.

As far the major itself, I personally think its waste of your career, time and a very selfish choice.

  5. No, you do not need a PhD to teach.

My brother began teaching at a community college while he was in grad school wroking on his MS.. After graduation, he was hired fulI-time. That was several years ago  and he is still working there 9 years later.

Below is a link to the Chronicle of Higher Education. You can pay for it, but you can get enough info for free, too. Your college library should carry it, too.

  6. sit around and play air guitar all day long.

  7. Most people who get a degree in that field work in academia, law, or nonprofit organizations. There aren't many six-figure earners in Women' s Studies, so pursue it because you would love your eventual job.

  8. I only know one person who majored in Gender Studies, and he is now a law student.

  9. Well it lets you act really pompously and annoyingly to normal people who have actually tried to study something of value.

  10. if u r well-qualified, u could try to apply for an instructor position, or u would be able to work for the civil organizations, or some mission groups, possibly some HR positions or gender-related legal consultant at corporations, and also u could try to apply for a law school with the BA in women's studies. and i think its possible u could be teaching with only MFA instead of PH.D cuz MFA can be substituted for the PH.D.

The following is an excerpt from wikipedia:

"The M.F.A., unlike most master's degrees, is used as a guarantee of a high level of professional competence in the visual arts. It is also accepted as an indication that the recipient has reached the end of the formal aspects of his/her education in the making of art, that is to say, it is the terminal degree in visual arts education and thus equivalent to terminal degrees in other fields, such as the Ph.D. or Ed.D.

  11. Why on Earth would you waste time doing one of those?
