A cat from the shelter. Better yet you could adopt a couple of kittens or cats because there are TONS!

the aspca has lots of pets that need loving homes.  all their adoptable animals have been given vet care and screened for suitablity. many of the shelts also offer "pet profiling" that matches the personality of the pet to the family.

Any breed of cat that has been socialized can be great with people.

How old are your kids?  If any of them are under four DON'T get a cat.

And how are your finances?  Four kids is a lot to take care of.  Do you really have the time and money caring for a pet will require?  Especially since you just posted that you JUST got a dog.  What is an "American Mastiff", by the way.  I've never heard of that breed.

my flame point siamese is the nicest cat ever. He loves people, and loves being petted and cuddled. When we have people over, he lays in the middle of the room so everyone will be forced to pay attention to him. And he is a gorgeous cat, too!
