What Causes Chilling from sounds such as nails at the blackboard e.g?

I have heard that the fingernails on a blackboard is universally disliked by humans. The scientist speculated that it may go back to some instinctual alarm call in background, sort of an instinctual alarm.  It sounded like they were just guessing though.

I don't know what causes it. Chalk never bothers me, but nail files do!
