  1. Portillo's for sure!

  2. Portillios has the best chicago dog I have ever had, however if you see a Maxwell St. Doghouse on a chicago corner that is what I have been told is the best although I have only had a Maxwell St. Polish there.

  3. Al's is decent but they can't compare to Portillos. Portillos has the atmosphere and the food. On top of awesome hot dogs, you can't forget the fries, the shakes, the chocolate cake and the chocolate cake shakes.

  4. Neither!!  Those are the touristy places to get a hot dog but they are nowhere near the best.

The onions at Portillo's are disgusting and have been fermenting in a jar for god knows how long.

The best Chicago hot dog used to be Demon Dogs under the Fullerton El Stop, but unfortunately the CTA revoked their lease in order to expand.

In my opinion the best chicago hot dog can be found in Northbrook, IL at a wonderful place called Ira's.  Also, try Frank N' Fries on Golf Road out by 294.

  5. Wiener's Circle!

  6. portillo's

  7. PORTILLO'S!!!!

  8. Al's!

  9. Al's

    hands down

  10. portillo's. they've got no real competition.

  11. Portillo's is the best!

I can still remember when d**k had his 1st little hot dog stand!

Their Italian Beef is awesome too.

I stopped eating red meat for almost 20 years... then I got talked into  having a Portillo's Itallian Beef.......I've been eating meat regularly again...it's THAT good .LOL~!

  12. Although Portillo's has a good dog I hate the curly fries.  Al's has a good dog too but is known for it's Italian beef.

There are several real hot dog stands.  Every neighborhood had one but recently some have closed their doors.  They have been reopened as various ethnic fast food places.

In general, look for the yellow "Vienna" sign in the window or outside of any hot dog stand before entering.  That tells you that they start with the best.

One exception to the "Vienna rule," is below. They make their own products:
