  1. General Tso's Chicken Brigade !

  2. Mandarin and Cantonese are different dialects of the Chinese language.

However, there are 2 different military forces in China. The "People's Liberation Army" (PRC mainland China) and the military of "The Republic of China" (ROC Taiwan). The reason for the two different forces is because, although officially Taiwan is a part of China, there are some Taiwanese people who would like independence. There are 17 nations that recognize Taiwan as an independent nation. And although the UN considered it independent before, the current United Nations does not. Their system is basically separate governments but under 'One China'. Taiwan's forces get their defense products from the United States while PRC purchases their equipment elsewhere. It is safe to say Taiwan has a more technologically advanced military while PRC is using a lot of Russia's cold war hand me downs. PRC of course has more manpower.

Hong Kong and Macau are also part of China but considered separate and does not have their own military. People born in Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan would have a different passport from the People's Republic of China (mainland).

This subject is under controversy and quite confusing, even Chinese people think so.
