According to Galatians3:1-3+

O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, that ye should not obey the Truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has ben evidently set forth, crucified among your?

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Fallen from Grace meaning that they think their salvation is according to how law abiding or good works of their flesh or their additional rules. Not depending on Gods Grace & following after the Spirit over the written word.

3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

  1. Actually it isn't the religion persay that falls from grace. It is the individual person. As  grace has to do with accepting Christ and following Him, by keeping him inside your heart. For it is Christ that brings peace and grace to the Christians, and believers of Him in the world.

They forget or never learned that good works don't bring faith or grace to you, It is God / Jesus that gives them to you, But you must accept Him into your heart. When you do, you will see how that can bring on true works.

As thinking works are first can often lead to people seeking glory or attention upon themselves, Instead of letting others be lead to God through them.

  2. According to the entire book of Galatians, and tying that in with the book of Ephesians, falling from grace has to do with going back to a Law that can not save, like the "Judaisers" who wanted to circumcise gentiles before they could become Christians, or those who absolutely insist that you MUST keep the Sabbath, or eat only certain foods, or holidays, etc, etc.

In other words, Legalism is Lethalism, and it's what the Pharisees were constantly in struggle against Jesus over, such as washing hands in a prescribed manner, what you say, HOW you say it, etc, etc, etc.

  3. For a better understanding, we can see verse two this way: This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works(ie: ceremonies, rituals, formalisms) of the law, or by the hearing(ie: accepting) of faith(ie: relying upon the Word of God).  Then verse three; Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit(ie: the influence of heavenly principles), are ye now made perfect(ie: complete) by the flesh(ie: your life in this secular world)?  The point is, that just because we(including any long time Christian), the eyes of our understanding has begun to be enlightened with God´s will, which is His Word, we should not think at any time that we´ve got it all figured out.

Because when the next trial in our life comes, we will have to go right back to God´s Word for the truth concerning our situation.

  4. I think the yeast of the Pharisees is a BIG problem in today's church across the board and denominations! Matter of fact, I'd say much of the church suffers from a spiritual Candida (Yeast infection)!

We need to return to the pure gospel that Jesus' blood is what cleanses us from all sin and delivers us into this living hope! Our "good works" are just expressions of our gratitude and signs of our faith in Him who works in us and through us! They aren't what saves us!

The gospel isn't a mix of the Old and New covenants. We don't do hybrids as author Bob George talked about in his book, "Classic Christianity" No! It's a whole new covenant!! Jesus dying for us that He might redeem us and live His life and righteousness through us! When that happens, the law is fulfilled and God's love is expressed!!

    Good question Sister!!

  5. Matthew 25

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Clearly the criteria for judgment here is what they did.

I think CS Lewis said it well:

"Regarding the debate about faith and works: It’s like asking which blade in a pair of scissors is most important."

  6. You hit the nail right on the head. A spiritual gospel is far superior to the popular ideas we hear these days. More on my bio.

    Thanks for this great question.

  7. Since that is for NONE of us to judge then I'd say NONE!
