COLORS
The thin layer of my humanity colors me brown
Which mostly I don’t see
The observations about life that I give breath to, colors me gray
People state this of what I reveal
The touch of my hands, by some, colors me green
As evidenced by the life that springs up around me
The secret heart on my sleeve colors me red
It feels the flux in loves’ current
Even before I speak, I am seen. Even after I speak I wonder
Which color will be perceived
I am not one but colors innumerable
If colors are like clothes
Changed to convey different information
Then I am a skinny man made fat, because
I walk around with an entire wardrobe on
Some colors I was born to
Others out of necessity, were made along the way
So if you see me out there and you want to communicate
I am a radiant human being covered in a thin layer of brown.
