Our zoo had a demo on this thought.  The egg needs to be turned in order to survive - thus there must have been SOMETHING OR SOMEONE turning the egg.  Most logically it was the chicken.  Thus the chicken came first.

Chickens evolved from something that was not a chicken.  But individuals do not evolve, only populations evolve.  Therefore, the first chicken had to come from an egg that was laid by something that was not-quite-a-chicken.  

So the egg came first.
