What Computer Should I Buy?

I am a senior in high school, and next year I am off to college. I am going to major in Computer Science, so I'm going to need a really good computer to take with me. The labs (at MTU) are great, but I will need one so that I can work while I'm in my dorm or while I'm out and about.

Because I'm going to major in Computer Sciences, I'm going to need a top of the line one. I'll need lots of memory and great RAM, and I want to be able to dual boot Windows and Linux on it. What computer would be good for me? It needs to be a laptop...

  1. You should look into alienware computers. Quality comes at a price, but it's worth it. I know they're known for "gaming pc's" but if you're a techie, like myself, a "gaming PC" can be used for anything processor, hard drive, graphics, or RAM-intense, like video editing and computer scienc'ing, and blah blah blah you know.

If you're willing to shell out $2K, it would be highly worth it. A suggestion first, go to www.cnet.com and type in the name of the brand and model of a pc you're interested in. READ the reviews, see if it sounds good for you. If most are the reviews are low, then the laptop itself is probably not great, move on and look for something else. You don't want to spend that much cash and not be absolutely sure. But most of the time, if you pay for the quality, you get what you pay for.

That means I would highly  suggest you NOT do is go to your local Best Buy and buy one of those $450 Toshiba's... they're complete shhit.

  2. you really dont need an awesome computer for that, definetly above average but not top of the line unless your willing to dish out the 3 grand for it.

id say going to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and searching for the specs you want is your best bet.
