Question:

What Conservation Ideas Do You Have to Help the Environment?

I do a bit now but I thought that I could become a better environmentalist. I am only a teenager so I can only do little things that are actual actions. Right now I only use the shower when I am actually rinsing, plant gardens, walk and carpool to school and the movies but I though people could have some better ideas.

  1. There should be composting plants contructed all over the world, because there are so many places in our world that lack nutrient rich soil. Also, public transportation needs to be used more. Kids also should carpool, that really contributes to conservation of the environment.

  2. i am muslim, we have practices that are genuinely environment friendly, of course, not bombing! It;s not actually islamic, for we are a religion of peace loving citizens of the world.

    the lists:

...old clothes is part of the faith.Meaning, we use it until it is wearable.

....we bury our deads wrapped only in white cloth, king or pauper,no trees to cut and made into coffins, and bury them within 24 hours. No wakes to attend, no electricity used for the wakes, no relatives to wait and have them in transport using up fuels.Creamation is not allowed unless with just reasons, thus saving fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.

,,,,,when we perform ritual cleaning for prayers, we are recommended, but not enforced  to use only a litre of water, and 4 litres for bathing. The prophet, peace be upon him, even said that one must save water even in a flowing river.

.....it is a sin for us to throw waste materials in bodies of  water, roads, places where people spend time around.

.....even on doomsday, we are admonished to plant  tree seedlings.

.....it is forbidden for us to  kill games or plants just for fun.although we are allowed to kill those that may harm humans or the likes.

.....we are  taught not to eat in excess or waste things for Allah loved not wasters.

.....i also petitioned to the islamic high authorities that the use of unrecycable commodities be banned for muslims to use like styrofoam food packaging and cups, disposable diapers, using of hardwoods as doors and furnitures, art works, etc.making it sinful instead, the illegal but unsuccessful implementation of forest and marine laws conservation on the    gather and  market of corals, flora and fauna.

.....the using of portable water drinker and not touching the lips with it nor breath in in when drinking therefore minimizing dishes to be washed.

.....i consider not recycling or composting  anything even as small as a candy wrapper a major sin as it kills the earth, worst than killing a person.

.....i've placed a water cooler besides the ref so that those who wish to drink cold water need not open the ref frequently.

.....minimizing the use of air con by having bigger windows, well shaded room.

.....i have a top loader washing machine that is said uses minimal amount of  water, but i use it rarely, i now opted to have time to do laundry manually and let it dry under the sun when possible.

.....we use our graywater(water used in laundry, etc) watering the laws and ornamentals, but clean water for the organic vegies.

.....i installed low flow water aerator in our kitchen and wash basins, also the shower as it reduces as much as 50% consumption.

.....i recommended in our various islamic radio programs to promote another radio station non sectarian environment awareness program to be monitored.

.....i gave ideas to the local groups of imams(like priest in christianity) that sermons about earth protection and maintenance be regularly included in the spiritual teachings as Allah(most glorious and most high) state in the quran that man was created to be the vicegerents(caretakers) of this earth.2:30

    ....etc

  3. What you are doing i s a very good thing,if you get each one of your friend to do the same then they in turn will get others to do the same thing. You will be surprised by the results.

Good Luck and keep up the good work!!

  4. we r in a drought here in so fla., and only allowed to water our lawn once a week, so when my husband and i take a shower, we plug the tub up and then, with a very small sump pump, we pump the water out into the yard to water the lawn and plants. It is a nuisance but at least we rn't wasting 50 to 60 gallons of water a day

  5. Don't let your friends put trash where it doesn't belong(specially when they are driving and think that the road is some kind of place that you can just put your trash and don't give a c**p about what will happen later.)!I see people doing that all the time and it really bothers me. = ( sniff.

  6. I think that it is great that you are doing your part to help the enviornment! Don't feel bad because you don't have the ability to do more - just because you are a teenager and don't have thousands of dollars to invest in solar panels for your home and a Prius doesn't mean that your efforts don't count. You should feel good because your desire to do what you can do shows that you are a responsible young person. What you are already doing is a step in the right direction and every bit counts. By choosing to take showers instead of baths you are using less water. Walking and carpooling is helping to minimize air pollution too.

I'd suggest reading more books and magazines instead of watching television to save energy. You don't even have to spend money to buy them, you can take a trip to your local library and check them out for free. You can also save a lot of electricity by hang drying your laundry instead of using a dryer. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to use an outdoor clothesline either. I hang most of my clean laundry on hangers and allow them to air dry from my shower stall and bathroom towel racks. If I do my laundry in the afternoon then things are usually dry by the next morning without using any excess electricity. I do recommend using a liquid softener in the washing machine though or your laundry won't be as soft as it could be. Remember, you don't have to make dramatic changes to make a difference. Conserve when you can, even little things like turning off appliances when they aren't being used or not letting the water run while you brush your teeth helps. Keep up the good work!

  7. oops wrong kind of conservation ideas

    here is a different one

the best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods

What can we do to make a community more aware of global warming?

organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio

    have citizan meetings

get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,

that is what we do in Mexico

    POSITIVE ACTIONS

print Tshirts with slogans ,hang posters all over the place (with recycled paper if possible)

classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash

70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .

and it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground

and it is the easiest to take care of

o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid

if you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell

the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull blck soil for the garden of flower pots .

if you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,

and add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist

this rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full

got a compost heap in the garden for 6 years ,have added tons of banana poles ,and palm leaves at times tree trunks ,the mountain goes up and down and never seems to get any bigger ,the stuff rots and becomes a very fine black compost of high density

    ------------------------------...

global warming cannot be stopped but we can stop helping it becoming faster, and being friendlier to out Environment cannot be bad

if you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,

we have done a lot of comunity cleaning and if you dont leave alternatives or try to work on peoples guilt feelings (some people actually have those ,but not many)

than your efforts are a waste of time.

if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

    the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

    education on environmental awareness

education on family planning to curb over´population

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

    recicling wastes,limit water use

here are a 100 more ways

  8. To plant trees and preserve the existing ones is a splendid idea.

  9. First of all if you want to save the environment everything has to be made to help the environment that is biodegradable. Those who buy/use those things should get a tax credit as an incentive to go "Green" otherwise people aren't going to help save the enviornment if there isn't an incentive for them too.

  10. A combination of wind and solar power to power the home.

Convert your roof into a rainwater harvesting roof and make your home self reliant, with your own water supply.

Use paper bags at the shopping centre or use your own bag to carry things home.

Bike, use public transport or walk to wherever you need to go. Try to carpool as much as possible. But don;t be environmental to the point of hitch hiking ! ;-)

Buy a hybrid car. Don;t use gas if possible. There are cars that run off bi-product oils from McDonalds.

Use used coffee grinds from starbucks to make your garden healthy !

  11. Good for you!

Try taking your own bags when shopping.  Maybe get a mesh bag, or just reuse the plastic ones.

Do you have a fenced-in yard that faces south or west?  Put up a trellis and plant a vine on it (fence is important because otherwise, the vine might hide a burglar).

You're helping to set a trend and making conservation socially acceptable among your peers at a time when attitudes and habits are being formed.  Your influence will go beyond what you, personally, conserve.

Research.  How can you redesign houses, etc., for maximum energy efficiency?  Then begin contacting your legislators for appropriate codes, tax breaks, etc. (Examples:  geothermal heat/a/c; solar panels; overhangs on roofs; whole house fans; wider walls [2X6 instead of 2X4]; radiant barriers; etc.

  12. start out with what you can do. just image all 6 billions of us do this...

    -solar panels for my house

-i'd love to have a hybrid car

-wind energy for my house too if possible

-all light bulbs are engery efficient

-use the special shower head for water saving efficient

-turn off any electronic device when i dont use

    -use rechargable battery

    -recycle stuffs if possible

  13. I always remind friends and relatives to recycle all recyclable material especially when I'm with them and they don't recycle, I usually tell them to take the extra time to make sure you recycle that bottle or can. I'm the person always turning off the lights in the house, especially the ones in the living room. I try to keep a steady speed and not accelerate quickly in my Toyota Corolla. I bought a 250 pack of recyclable bags to recycle all the papers in my house. I don't use any arousal spray cans what-so-ever.
