Question:

What Could This Be and Why?

I know my car's alternator isn't charging the battery or something. Bought a new battery, new alternator, connected everything back up and it turned over really well and normal. About 20 times later, I turned it over with the lights on (dark outside), and the lights dim so much and then all I heard was a click click click sound out of the starter. I know that indicates the battery is low. Also, the car is having a hard time starting. Today, I'm gunna take off the starter, alternator, battery, and test them all to see if they are good and get everything charged back up. Also, I'm gunna rewire my car from the starter solenoid to wherever it goes. The wires look a lil' worn so that won't be a problem. But my question: What is causing my battery to go dead or lose its power if the alternator checks out to be ok? I believe it is fine. It's new but I'll test it. Thanks

  1. idk

  2. the alternator sends a small amount of electricity back to the battery to recharge it while running. it doesn't send a massive flow back to the battery after you start to "re-fil" the lost amps and volts instantly. your alternator system is fairly simple design I think, if you have a seperate voltage regulator on the fire wall this is what sends the power back to the battery. does your car have one of these and do you have a small wire connects to the posative post of the battery as well as the large one.
