This is a trick question, eh? Well, as it's an island although it is connected by a tunnel and a causeway, to Kowloon which is on the Chinese mainland, you could say that it is Chinese. It is never the less and island and I loved it when I visited it in 1988 as it was the most fabulous place I'd ever visited.

For anyone who thinks Hong Kong is in Japan, go look it up ANYwhere and it will tell you that is a part of China.

The language they speak there is Cantonese, which is one of the Chinese languages. Japanese sounds nothing like Cantonese.
