I've been told that it's best to take US Dollars to Sharm El Sheik, but to also take some Egyptian Pounds. But how much of each???

i plan to take about £300 Sterling, so how much of that should be Egyptian Pounds, and how much Dollars?

i'm all inclusive so i dont have to worry about things like paying for food, its mainly for day trips, taxis, souvenirs, etc.

  1. Well, from what I hear from time to time in the news, 1 sterling is like 10 LE (Egyptian pounds) so that should be more than enough for your trip.

My advice is to pay for everything in egyptian pounds not in sterlings or in dollars, cos I know ppl here in Egypt once they figure out that you're a foreigner they start exploiting you in every way possible. Plus if you pay in foreign currency i. e. dollars or anything else, it's gonna be more profit for the buyers, which is I believe unfair.

Just pay in egyptian pounds no matter how the buyers resist.

  2. Take Sterling pounds with you. The exchange rate in Egypt is better than elsewhere. The Sterling pound=10.7 Egyptian pounds today. The US Dollar = 5.33 Egyptian pounds today.

You can exchange money at the airport and at your hotel.

Bring your credit card too, you may need to cash money at the ATM machines. It can be also used at most hotels, shops and restaurants.

You will pay for drinks at your hotel, all inclusive does not include drinks.

    Have a nice trip.

  3. it's best if you change money @ the airport and you can find lots of places to change money anywhere ... so don't worry about that .. they accept US Dollars , UK Quids and Euros ...

  4. It is all about the traveller cheques

Take a little bit of American, just in case you want to buy something in the airport there and back, and a little bit in Egyptian. Leave the rest (at least £200) in traveller cheques and change them if and when you need them. That way, they are easy to change when back at home if you have any left, and whilst there, you can change them up to whatever you want.

I suggest Egyptian though, otherwise each time you tip (which you will have to do a lot) it'll have to be in notes, because it is hard for them to change up american/english coins. Also, if paying in dollars, they will try to get you to pay more, by confusing you with the exchange rates.

  5. Your 300 sterling is about 3500 Egyptian pounds, it is a lot of money if like the food and accommodation are paid for.

When you change your money at any bank at the airport or even on the city you get this:

    1 pound sterling - 10.57 Egyptian pounds.

    1 US dollar        -     5. 53 Egyptian pounds
