Question:

What DVR are compatible with DirecTV?

I have heard bad things about the Direct TV HD/DVR receiver, not to mention it cost $199.99 up front plus $5 month only to lease it with an additional $5 charge for DVR service. Many people say they aren't happy with Direct TV receiver. I am looking to get this for my mom and she has DirectTV. I would like to purchse (not lease) a DVR that she can use with DirectTV. I am sure she would not mind a subscription fee for DVR service but I would imagine there is something she could hook up to her tv or existing hd receiver to record shows like she could do with a DVD-R. She is not interested in recording more than one show at a time. It would be record when she is not home or if she records one movie maybe while watching another. Any suggestions? Please do not select lease. This is a gift. I want to pay for it so it belongs to me. I don't want to pay for it only to be told it is the property of Directtv and needs to be returned to directtv should we cancel service.

  1. Im happy with my direct tv plus dvr,100 bucks.

  2. Each company (Cox, Charter, Quest, Comcast, Dishnetwork, Directv) have their own DVR box which you can use. I know they charge more, but each of their boxes is not compatible with other cable providers.

Double check with them, or try to use a random DVR and see if it works for you.

    Good Luck,

  3. i know people who have a tivo box for direct t.v.
