I've got Australian relatives visiting in two weeks. I'm in Essex near London.

I wonder what they want to see in London? Its hard to imagine where you live from a tourist point of view.

I'm already going to take them to Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and Madam Tussauds.

  1. You sure got it nailed.  How about taking them to the Grenadier Pub and telling them it's the most haunted pub in London.  Harrod's also a good place for them to see how outrageously expensive London is.  Then show them the parking meters that charge £1 for every 15 minutes.

It's possible they've googled for that info on the internet... so the person above me is correct.  Ask them :)

  2. Walkabout ;)

  3. Take them to the British Museum, if they're interested in history. It's free.

  4. There's an Australian War Memorial at Hyde Park Corner.

  5. If you are going to go to Buckingham Palace anyway, go to Charing Cross Station and then walk up towards Trafalgar Square.  Walk through Admiralty Arch and up towards Buckingham Palace through St. James's Park, then down Birdcage Walk to take in Westminster Abbey and Big Ben.  Follow the road down to Downing Street to have a look at the nice policemen with their guns, and then back up to Trafalgar Square again.  All totally free and good fun in about an hour and a half/2 hours.

  6. You have to take them on the London Eye. I absolutely loved it when I went on it in 2000 and I'm terrified of heights, which is saying something. It'll show them miles of London from one place. If you get on it at night it'll look wonderful. I think it's just under £14 per adult, which isn't too bad (go to www.visitlondon.com). Have fun :)

  7. You have just about got it covered, they will prob want to go on the tube and red buses, but your best bet is to ask them!

  8. The places you have listed thus far are exactly the sort of thing your Oz relatives will want to see.

    Take a butchers at this site too . . . .

Australian Times - News for Aussies Living in London - There is a growing trend of young Australians coming to London. ... “I think it’s the best experience and I think everyone should do it.” ...

  9. The London Eye is great. Madame Tussards is terrible.

How about a wander around some of the great parks and neighbourhoods?  Hamstead High Street and the heath are lovely. Spitalfields markets and Shoreditch high street are really lively and fun on a Sunday. Borough market is great too. Take them to places Londoners like to go to rather than the tourist traps.
