What Do CO2 Global Warming Theorists Say About Global Cooling?

Global cooling:

"Twelve-month long drop in world temperatures wipes out a century of warming.Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years"

  1. Snow in winter is not evidence of anything.

Look at the dailytech graph.  January 07 was the second-hottest month ever recorded.  It's easy to see a large drop when your measure begins at such a high point.

And I believe the solar cycle has more of an effect on climate than carbon does.  It's just that these things can't be measured in just one year, even ten.

update: yes, the '20s & '30s were hot years as well.  Like I said, I acknowledge the solar cycle's effect on Earth's temperatures.  We may be at the start of a cooling trend--but it's just too early to tell.  Snow in winter doesn't prove anything.

  2. just wait until feburarys results come in, those will also be below average and so far march as been too in the U.S.

I think this is just because of the delayed solar cycle.  There are no sunspots.  Not enough UV rays, not enough ozone forming, and not enough warm air moving north and south to the poles.

Sea ice info indicates the northern ice cap is still increasing in size, by this time last year it was on its way back down.  The south pole's sea ice started growing a little earlier than last year too.

The global sea ice graph somewhere in this link shows that there is an extra quarter million sq miles of sea ice right now over average.  Im not making it up, and this link seems to have an opinion that global warming is real, so no "oil money" excuses.

Not that this means anything against global warming, but hey, its a lot more ice and snow cover than usual to reflect sunlight back into space, cooling us a tad bit.  Scientists estimate an extra 2-3% of average cloud cover would elimate global warming.

  3. Believers will tell you that cold is just weather, warm is proof of climate change.

Global warming is over.  The global temperatures have been declining for over 12 months, and are now the lowest recorded in over 10 years.

  4. .

  5. Were possibly due for another mini ice age. This was noted long before GW?/CC.But a lot of scientist have mixed feelings on the actual cause? Basically more speculation then real evidence.I just watch a documentary last night on the History Channel, they seem to suggest, that no amount of GW,will offset whats coming.

Use the web search for (next ice age) it will bring up quite a few sites.

  6. As a skeptic I have to say a twelve month drop does not make a trend.  However, it does show how poor our understanding of the earth's climate really is.  Who predicted last year this drop in temperatures?  But yet they want us to believe their predictions 100 years from now.

The drop in temperatures we have seen is due to a strong La Nina.  As this La Nina weakens, temperatures will very likely rebound. The important issue is whether the Pacific Decadal Oscillation which has descended into its negative cold mode stays there. That would mean less “warm” El Ninos (which have dominated the satellite data set period, because it was mainly in the warm PDO phase which favors El Ninos) and more “cool” La Ninas. This would logically reduce or reverse the longer term trend in temperatures over the next few decades.

  7. its only one cold month. not a year as your souse is suggesting.

BTW the the US is 1934 globally it was 1998 or 05 depending on who you ask.

PS global warming not US warming.

  8. google it, it has to do with sun spot cycles..not CO2 emissions (graphs will even show..CO2 increases with heat..not the other way around)...secondly, this is a cycle that has been going on for all of Earth's existance, the world cools and heats (newspapers will prove that)...and also, right now...its not global warming thats happening...the earth is currently cooling..(look it up)

(sorry i didnt read your whole question but this answer is for those who actually believe in it...global warming's a bunch of bs)

  9. Climate is what the weather does over several decades of time, just because last winter was cold does not meanthe globe is cooling any more than one hot year means it is warming.  It is the long term trends you have to look at.

  10. We have now had a decade of cooler or stable temperatures, so this does begin to look like a trend

    http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature+Mon...

This has happened even though carbon dioxide levels have continued to increase throughout the decade. This indicates to me that the role of CO2 in our climate has been grossly over estimated (probably for political reasons)

It does have its effect, but it is only one in many factors that make up our climate.

Also there was snow in the Negev  desert (southern Israel) this winter for the first time in living memory
