Question:

What Do The Visually Impaired See When They Open Their Eyes?

If you are completely blind in both eyes, what do you see?

Do you see complete darkness? The faint colours of objects?

I'm really intrigued by what these people see, and so i'm hoping someone could help me out?

Sorry if I haven't handled my question in the most sensitive way and I hope I have not caused any offence.

Thanks

  1. I asked my Grandmother this, as she is totally blind, and she said it varies from day to day. She is past the stage of seeing shapes, and now can see nothing. She said that some days, she just sees lightness, but other days, she just sees darkness. She gets really fed up when she sees darkness and says it affects her mood.

  2. my grandma is blind and she tells me all she sees is black and occasionally she sees shadows of people standing in the light. its weird. i feel really bad for her.

  3. I think its just darkness, I work with a blind women at the nursing home I work at and at times she can see very bright objects, like milk and she can see white on black very well..

  4. Close your eyes. Then blindfold yourself. Then roll your eyes to the top of your head with your eyes still closed. This is what you would see.

However, you would not understand the perception of sight, and therefore could not see anything else. You can still open your eyes if you are blind. You just cannot focus them, thus is why most blind people wear dark sunglasses.

  5. A blur, if anything.

  6. Nothing?

  7. it depends how blind they are visually impaired could just mean they need glasses to drive

  8. my hubby's blind in 1 eye and says that can see light bright light  but that's all

and work with lady completely blind and she some times see,s bright light but no figures   ...seams funny to see her with sun glasses on in bed

  9. nothing. keep one eye open and cover the other, its like you dont have that eye anymore, and that its what they see.........i think

  10. black...black?

  11. It varies from person to person some see faint and some see nothing. nothing means complete darkness.

  12. It seems to me that if someone loses their sight, then they would be aware of 'seeing' just darkness. That's because they still have a part of their brain waiting for a signal from the eyes but not getting anything, so they are aware of not seeing, and this awareness manifests itself as darkness.

However, if someone is born blind, then the part of the brain which would have interpreted visual signals is likely doing something eklse instead. The person would not be aware of darkness, as the concept of vision is completely alien to them.  Try looking out of the back of your head - of course you can't because you have no eyes there, but it's not darkness you see there, is it? It's nothing at all. The same could be true of people born blind.

  13. I am not sure but I think that it depends on the person.  I know a person that I considered legally blind, however he could in fact see some things when magnified greatly.  On the other hand some people can not see any thing at all.  You should also try asking your doctor the next time you go he/she might be able to help.  Hope this helps.

  14. I've always thought blind peoples vision would be very blurred, but able to make out colours. Ha, that's basically what I see without my glasses.
