What Do You Call Them? Military?

Who do you call the people that tell their families that their loved one or ones have been killed overseas? And is that a Male job? What rank do you have to be? Just curious.

  1. Generally it's the Chaplain and his assistant. Not all Chaplains are males. For the most part, they are at last a Lieutenant or above. 0-4

    It's not the greatest part of their job.


  2. Casualty Assistance Calls Officer (CACO). They are trained and generally in the grade of Sergeant/Petty Officer Second Class and higher. And they make notification on deaths wherever they occur. Not just from overseas. Most are males.  

  3. Families are usually notified by a Casualty Assistance Officer and a Chaplain is also available. CAOs can be female. As for Chaplains, it depends on their religious denomination. CAOs will be a rank equivalent to or higher than the deceased...usually an E-7 or above. Chaplains are always officers.
