  1. I don't think that is an accurate quote, pretty close and conveys the meaning though. I also agree with it. i could research and get the  actual, but like I said it conveys the the intent.

Ideals applied without regard to necessity will always lead to a bad end. That does not mean ideals should be abandoned, only that the the means of achieving them must be modified,

  2. How true that is.

  3. He was born rich and raised rich so I understand why he had that opinion.  As for me, I'm 74 and have a brain (I.Q.145) but I also still have heart.

  4. That is absolutely insightful and 100% the truth.

  5. true. as you mature, you get smarter.

  6. I think it pretty well sums it up.  People progress from the idealism of youth to the realism of maturity.

  7. Manipulation.

  8. There is some truth to that.

    For myself it does.

I was a "lib" back in the day.  Then, I became a father and provider.

Opinions of what is and what is not the best way to handle things change when you take on more responsibility.

Fighting to get a good job, own a home, education, taxes, the economy and national security take on much more importance when your life, and the ones you provide for are directly affected by those issues.

You still care about the ones you did when you were younger, but they have fallen a few notches down the list of priorities.

I don't consider it an "intelligence" issue.  More I believe it to be a "wisdom" issue.

    Wisdom is intelligence.... applied.

  9. As much as I admire Churchill this was said by a man who crossed the floor of the House of Commons more times than the cleaners depending upon which party would advance his career the most. The one thing in terms of politics that Winston Churchill cared the most about was - Winston Churchill.

He is associated with the Conservative party since it is with this he rose to international status during WWII (despite being in the Liberal party during WWI at the age of 40).

  10. I have about the same ideas I did at 20.  Fiscal conservative and slightly socially liberal.  I  have always been more of a  realist.

  11. That they had smear campaigns even  back then.

  12. I love that one it is soooo true. Technically I am independent, but...

When I was young and optimistic, I was super liberal. Always advocating for the underdog, social programs, etc.

As I got older I started to see that the liberal mentality is counterproductive to the overall strength of this country. Liberals promise great things to poor, ignorant people who eat their lies right up because they want to believe, but the Dems rarely come through, and when they do it means tax hikes to pay for the programs, which invariably ends up hurting the American worker while rewarding the lazy and the welfare candidates. Meanwhile having welfare available means that huge numbers of people do not try hard enough because they know they can just live off of welfare. This cycle ensures the Democratic voters will always remain poor and in need, and it keeps the Dem politicians in a job as the voters keep barking up the same old tree, even though it never actually gets them anywhere.

In the end, I found when reading the Constitution as an adult that I believe the Constitution is the key to America's success. I have become a strict Constitutionalist, which means I lean a lot further right these days.

I heard this quote for the first time a few months ago. It means to me that when you are young you are optimistic and you want to change the world, as you get older and you begin to learn that the world is a bit more fixed, and reality not nearly as easy to manipulate as we may wish. It starts to become clear that in a capitalist society the conservatives will always be the most sucessful. So no matter how big your heart is, if your brain is functioning properly, it becomes evident that conservatives do function better and are more successful.

  13. Actually I think it was if you are not conservative by 40 then you have no brain.

Many, many philosophers have had similar insights.  But the one I like best is Bill Cosby's.  I may not get the ages and comments exactly correct, but his basic premise will be in tact.

from birth until about the age of 10 a son knows for a fact that their dad knows everything and can do anything

    .

From 10 to 15 he has figured out that dad cant do everything, but he stills know everything

    from 15 - 21 he now knows that dad doesn't know a d**n thing

around the time from 25-30 he begins to realize that knew really did know a lot.

from 35-40 he realizes that dad was right.

I cant do Cosby justice, but the theory is that in youth we rash and willing to rebel for any reason, but with years comes wisdom.

  14. Churchill was a conservative guy operating in a liberal country.  He called it as he saw it.  They also tagged him as a warmonger when he tried to get England to ramp up for war against Hitler.
