Question:

What Do You Guys Think Of BET's "The Iron Ring"?

It is similar to the Ultimate Fighter, except the teams are "ran" by Rappers. Frank Trigg and some well known former UFC fighters are involved in the training and coaching. It is obvious that the show is meant to bring a newer audience to the world of MMA.

Before I got to watch it I read plenty of reviews and none of them were good. I watched it last night and it was actually pretty good. With TUF I would see maybe two fights, but TIR has around four fights or more.

The entire environment reminds me of PRIDE because of the boxing ring and how the camera would switch to watch audience reactions.

  1. it is horrible i start to watch but can never finish it isn't even close to the ufc  yeah they have 1 min to fight that's it its a joke now they are in the finals they fight a little longer but they are poorly matched poorly ran poorly coached look at how the coaches are allowed to stand on the ring apron it is a joke sorry to say there is some talent there but the iron ring wont go into another season as it is lame and has low ratings

  2. Never heard of it but I'd suggest Rappers stick to promoting music :)***

  3. it's like a dog fight..

    the rappers 'own' the fighters

    the rappers don't know anything.

  4. Don't watch it exculsively b/c tecnique is bad.

  5. it sucks and the commentators voice is annoying plus most coaches dont know **** about mma probably only ludacris

  6. oww i dont like that show at all

  7. I don't like it because the show was poorly made. The entire season centered around one day of tryouts, and the rappers were featured more prominently than the fighters for most of the show. And then, around the fifth episode or so, when they did start showing more fights, the fighters were more or less brawling. With 1 five minute round, no one got to showcase their skills. A couple of the trainers and refs had no grasp of the MMA ground game, and everything out of the mouth of Iron Ring "Arbitrator" Rashon Khan seemed ignorant and derogatory, especially regarding grappling, which this supposed legend of martial arts knows nothing about. I.R. is a poor representation of MMA, twice as bad as EliteXC, and should not go to a second season.
