  1. Male guppies are cute, small, and very colorful, they will usually last long, and they eat like pigs! Bettas are also hardy, colorful, beautiful, and can stay in smaller tanks. A lot of fish can go together but it all depends on the tank size/type.

  2. I learned something as a fish breeder and enthusiest, that the best fish to have to begin with are Danios, Barbs, Tetras, and any other fish that are in  the Cichlid Family, and Bettas; because they are tropical fish that can stand water temperatures between 72-82 degrees.

    Bettas are good because they breathe regular air going up to the surface for air, so they don't need a filter really, but they do require a weekly water change so amonia don't build up, and water is the only thing you need to condition; if u plan to use a filter, only use a mini filter for betta tanks, because they can't handle very strong currents, it puts them into shock; But you can't mix male and females together unless they are ready to breed, but females can get along as long as they are in a big enough tank to have well enough hiding places;

    Danios are the best and very quite entertaining starter fish, but you will need to keep these fish in groups, but dont worry they are cheap enough fish; keep them in EVEN GROUPS, because being in odd groups they will kill off a fish to make themselves even!  They are a peacefull group of fish that can be in a community with barbs and tetras, who also need to be in groups, because they feel safer in a school;

    Cichlids are good like the other fish described up above, but you will need to find out which kind of fish u want that are the same group; like for instance: do u want a peacefull community? you will need peacefull full fish; you want semi-aggressive? some can get along with a peacefull community, but u will have to have alot of shelter places for the peacefull fish with their groups, so the peacefull ones don't get harrassed and bullied, because this will kill them off; and aggressive one's they need their own group, sometimes u have to separate them cuz they will harm each other too!

    And you don't want to mix sizes with different groups because no matter how many fish u have in a group, the bigger fish always eats the smaller fish! and don't mix long finned tailes with fish that likes to nip and eat them, that will damage or kill those kind of fish off.

  3. Well, you could have a small 10 gallon tank with a male betta, and some mollys or platys! No guppies, the betta will attack the male guppies because they look like a male betta and are so colorfull and have long flowing fins. But make sure you cycle the tank b4 adding any livebearers, b/c they will usually be pregnet once you get them home and the fry can not handle that cycling process! Here is a good artical on how to cycle a fish tank!

    If you only want 1 fish, a small little  2 gallon or so tank will work for a male betta. But NOT those tiny half gallon things they sell for them at the pet stores!

  4. I would get some mollies. So they have tons of babies. At the pet store there's a ton of mollies in the same tank that's less than 10 gallons. I would get 4 or 5 to start out with. Let the babies grow and continue adding 1 or 2 fish every week until you have around 20. I have a pleco (which was not a good idea) and everyone says if you really want one to be good and healthy you need a 25+ tank. Or do half and half with mollies and guppies. Have like 10 guppies and 10 mollies. Use the same idea as above. If you don't like mollies or guppies, a few gouramis would be nice. Just 5 or 6. I would get 2 kissing gouramis, 2 dwarf gouramis, and 2 blue gouramis. I was thinking of just having a bottom-feeder tank. Like 3 corys, some albino half dollar-sized frogs, a few ghost shrimp, any other types of bottom-feeders, and just 1 betta swimming around in the open spot. Good luck!!

  5. guppies,platies and swordtails last long but are fast breeders too

  6. I aggree guppies are cute but females have lots of babies so get only the colorful males also they are know to be very hardy fish
