  1. Wow. I guess respect just went out the window. Try to ignore this girl with her long answer about how the man who one UFC 1 is a bad fighter. I don't think a bad fighter can win. Oh and why would he be beat today. Cause everyone know bjj now. They know it cause he did his ### job.

Answer: That guy is a man I have much respect for

  2. Not a very good fighter.

In a modern MMA, Royce will be a second rate fighter with no hope of being a champion.

Lots of people were mezmerized with him back then, but just watch the link you provided there yourself.

-. He's a jackass in a sport MMA, watch how many times he feels or heard opponent tapped and he still keep on going? He was out there back then to promote Gracie name and to send a message to the other fighters.

-. UFC back then was created by the Gracie, all his families will be all over the place outside the ring, always there coaching him right next to the ring (something that's not allowed in modern MMA)

-. Most of his opponents have no clue of ground fight at all. Yet Gracie couldn't even control Kimo properly, eventhough Kimo's ground ability was very rudimentary and he rely only on his strength. The only way Gracie could win was by grabbing Kimo's hair. Kimo even got Royce back, which will translate his doom if he fought a modern MMA fighter.

-. Royce had no standing game at all, in a true MMA sense, he's only one dimensional fighter, we've seen that no one dimensional fighter can make it big these days.

    - Royce wasn't even the best Gracie, which he admitted himself.

All those being said, Gracie was the one that bring the whole MMA to US and thru US the world.

But Royce Gracie wasn't a very good fighter himself. Lots of his nephews are much better fighters than he ever was because lots of them that enter the ring nowadays actually have some stand up game to support their ground game.

  3. It seems like he has a problem letting go when people tap out.

Also, you typed "hatter" when you should have typed "hater"

  4. He's an excellent fighter and a revolutionary in the UFC world. He also seems quite down-to-Earth - a good quality for a 3 time champion.

  5. Royce fought and defeated opponents much larger than himself.  He shocked a lot of people who assumed that big powerful strikers would be the automatic winners in any confrontation.  He proved (at least to N.America) that you need a ground game to complement the stand-up striking.

This was at time when nobody cross-trained.  Now everybody does.

Sure he's not the best Gracie, but that's kind of the whole point.  He wasn't best and look what he was able to do.  The UFC recognizes that's why they put him in the HOF.  People should respect that.

Unless you're a "hatter" of course.

  6. sorry to be hatin, but here's what i think and what's the truth.

he was unstoppable when no one new jiu jitsu. he introduced it to america and who knows where else, then everybody else learned it and he got left behind as far as mma goes.

he's still a black belt and a great practitioner, but as a fighter he's not that good.

  7. Great fighter, because of him the martial art of Gracie Jujitsu (Brazilian Jujitsu, BJJ, etc.) is very well known. However, the UFC fighters took up BJJ like it was a requirement. This leads people to the false belief that BJJ is the best grappling style or best style ever. As a practitioner of BJJ I can say that it is a very effective martial art, but as a practitioner of many other martial arts I can also say that it is not nearly the best.
