Just out of curiosity. Do they shop for you differently or say "we can't afford" your eating lifestyle.

Thanks - I'm dieting and just wondering.

  1. They groan and say "I am NOT cooking for you."

That was when I announced I was going vegan.

When I announced I was going vegetarian, they were fine with it.

  2. A vegetarian diet should be much cheaper than one with meat.

If it is more expensive, the person is doing something wrong.

You seem to be assuming that you need special vegan foods if you're vegan.

  3. i have no idea cause i barely eat vegetables.

in fact i dont eat those.

    just salads.

and i hate it when i hate veggie.

    veggie is great.

  4. when i told my parents i wasnt going to eat meat anymore they freaked out. it actually really pissed me off. my mom was like "im not going to let you be a vegetarian" i just felt like saying "well **** you, its not like you can shove meat down my throat" but i didnt. i respect my mom, she just didnt know enough about vegetarianism.

    and vegetarianism isnt unaffordable...

  5. One night my parents, sister, and I were on our way to a restaurant and my dad gave the you have to eat meat for your body or somethin speech. They don't seem to mind much now. =)

  6. when i told my mom she was okay with it.

    but my dad got angry

    D:

    and my sister told him!

    ugh

  7. I'm not vegetarian. But I know it depends on the parents. Obviously if they're vegetarian themselves, they won't mind, but if they grew up on a farm, they will probably say you're being ridiculous. And the "normal" parents will probably just be fine with it, but tell you to make them a shopping list on what you want to eat and that you have to cook yourself, because I doubt they wanna have to do a lot of extra cooking. And also you gotta be able to live with them eating meat at the same dinner table as you, and not feel the need to have some :P I know a lot of people who give in because they actually like the taste of meat.

Anyway, if you're dieting, I suggest trying a different diet than the vegetarian one. Just keep a balanced diet or go for something like Weight Watchers. Or work out more, makes you stronger, too, and better of sports (obviously).

    Aight good luck :]

  8. I became a vegetarian when I was young and my parents were very concerned about how I was going to get protein and iron.

  9. I am only a 17, but when I was twelve, I decided to become a vegetarian, my parents were a little worried,so they suggested to wait until I was a little older. I was so annoying they finaly gave in. BE PERSISTENT!!!!

  10. My parents (when I said I wanted to go vegetarian) were actually really accommodating and nice about it. My dad, at first, was a little bit hesitant because he thought I couldn't get enough iron and protein from just veggies and fruit and nuts alone, but you can.

My mom takes my new vegetarianism as a fun challenge because now she has to get creative with meat substitutes and healthy, tasty vegetarian meals. My mom likes to be creative and artsy, so I think she's a little happy, but I don't think every parent would take it so well.

Whenever we go to the grocery store, my mother does shop for me differently. She asks me what sounds interesting to me. She's never said to me that she can't afford my eating lifestyle.

A great way to jump start being a new vegetarian is ordering a vegetarian starter kit. You can find these anywhere on line. My mom ordered one from PETA, but I'm sure if you don't like them (I don't really care for the PETA), then you can find them somewhere else.

    =)

  11. My mother was very supportive of my choice to be a vegetarian because it is a healthier lifestyle than a normal omnivorous diet. However, if you replace meat with fats, carbs, and sweets, it can be detrimental to your health. It can be expensive, but it does not have to be. There are several excellent tips on www.goveg.com.
