What Does This "☆" thing mean?

I've noticed that alot of my friends have ☆ in their name. I just wanna know what it is. so yeah.

It is a symbol for a star, they just put those there for decoration, or probably to replace an "o" or an "a" or maybe even an "e". They also use:
