  3. It used to stand for Entertainment & Sports Programming Network.  It no longer stands for anything but ESPN.

    When it was founded in 1979, it was called the Entertainment & Sports Programming Network, hence, ESPN.

    However, in 1985, the full name was dropped and they took on ESPN, Inc. as their corporate name.
