  1. it will be based on the vehicle.

how many miles it does to the gallon & how polluting it is, more environmentally damaging, the higher the road-tax.

    well that's the idea.

from what I can tell transit companies with fleets of vans, lorries, etc. are not happy. some private car owners could be in for a shock with a sudden rise in road-tax, over the top & out of the blue.

like most tax changes the full details have been some what vague.

    see link below.

  2. They are going to redefine the tax rates and groups for all cars registered from about 2002. Gordon Brown is trying to say that some will go down, some up. You can bet your life that more will go up than down! I have tried to fing a table of rates on the Gov web site, but as usual when they want to keep us in the dark, if it is there, I can't find it, it is well hidden.

  3. I hazard a guess, maybe its going up?

The main problem with this Government's transport policy is that they haven't got one! Absolutely nothing has been done is the last decade to get people to want to use the train, they are dirty, late and horrendously expensive.

  4. they are altering the tax brackets for vehicle classes - the higher polluting cars will be taxed heavier

  5. Kinda reminds me of the new carbon tax from Al Gore.
