O.K… Please forgive my lack of knowledge on the correct words to use…. & I realize that I sound very “girly” (it’s kinda o.k. since I AM a girl), but here goes..I just received a Toshiba DVD Recorder RW (model D-R 410) as a gift. I don’t care about watching movies, I don’t care about HD, I don’t care about stereo sound, I don’t care about ANY of that. All I want is to record the shows that I’m missing while I’m at work and also to record shows that might be on at the same time that something else that I want to see is on. So with that said, The DVD recorder only has a “plug in-thingy” in the back. The cable that is coming from the wall has an end that looks like it needs to be screwed INTO something. I either need an adapter that I can put on my DVD recorder that will allow me to s***w in the end of the cable OR I need an adaptor that I put on the end of my cable that will allow me to plug it into the DVD recorder.EXACTLY what type of “adapters” are these called & where do I get it.

  1. The unit you have has no tuner, which makes it seem pretty lame to me. So you'll need something that does the tuner function, like a TV or VCR. However, using a VCR to feed a DVD recorder seems like an insane step backwards in time.

You should try and see if you can trade it in on a DVD recorder with a tuner and timer, otherwise you'll be incredibly frustrated, I think this thing was mainly intended for people who have camcorders and want to record their movies on DVD.

  2. Your DVD recorder is not cable-ready. This is the first time I've ever seen a DVD recorder which lacked an antenna/cable input. Very strange.

There is no adapter which will help you. The only thing which will convert your incoming cable signals to video your DVDR can accept is a cable box from the cable company.

Your best bet is to exchange the DVDR for a different model. Make sure to specify you want one with a cable input and a cable-ready tuner.
