What did this country do with most of the territory in the Middle East?

  1. Britain and France got control of most of the Middle East after the collapse of Ottoman Empire.

    As far as I know neither of them did very much with the land, rather than just administrate it.  

    (This will probably open a can of worms)  One of the reasons that the UN chose Palestine for the new Jewish homeland was that Britain administered Palestine and could thus reorganize it as they saw fit.  The original idea was for the Palestinians to get about half the land and the Zionists to get the other half.


  2. Most of the formed mandates and colonies were British, such as Egypt, Palestine, and Transjordan, but a few were also French, including Lebanon and Syria.

  3. Well following the dissolution of most of the Ottoman Empire following WW1, the land was pretty much split between Britain, and France. Both of these countries held onto their territory until after WW2 when they were due to a plethora of problems forced to grant their colonies independence.
