Okay.

So I found a horney toad in my backyard yesterday... and I was wondering what you are supposed to feed them. Crickets, worms, human flesh? What?

And yes, they are endangered.

And yes, on Monday I am going to take it to my local zoo. No worries.

  1. They primarily eat ants. If you found it outside, why not just rerelease it outside rather than taking it to the zoo next week. Most horned lizards are protected and just by catching it you have violated federal law.

  2. crickets will be fine. esp if your only keeping till monday

  3. why not just put back outside

also are we talking about one of these http://www.pollywog.co.uk/cranwellshornc... in that case any insect it can fit in its mouth

  4. they feed on a diet of harvester ants, 95% of their diet is this, but you can feed them small crickets untill you can take them to the zoo on monday, they do not survive in captivity and you need to keep them in a tank which  has a temp of 85* in the day and no less than 70 at night, they don't drink out of a water bowl you have to mist the tank daily and they will get the water off the rocks or put a drop of water on their nose (yes seems crazy but they will drink through their nose) , best of luck honey hope he is ok

  5. go to lllreptiles.com they sell the harvester ants u need
