  1. UH French Fries!

  2. French Fries were not originated in France, they come from Belgium!!!!

Typical food you will find in the streets are: crepes and paninis (like a sandwich but with baguette bread).

  3. For the most part, food not all that different than what you are used to assuming you are  American, British, or Canadian.

Look on almost any restaurant or cafe menu in Paris and you'll find Steak and fried potatoes, salads, beef or lamb stew, roast chicken, or sauteed fish. Very little will be really surprising, only the names will be different.

What really distinguishes French food is its insistence on fresh, locally grown ingredients, eaten "in season" and prepared with attention to technique.

To most Americans, a simple dish of roast chicken with potatoes and green beans would be a very familar meal. Yet, in France, they will be astonished by the quality of what they are served. The chicken will not be some mass produced, factory farmed, flavorless bird raised in close quarters. The green beans will be raised locally and not transported for hundreds or even thousands of miles. The potatoes will prepared with meticulous technique. (and yes, cooking a potato can be an exercise in culinary technique that needs to be mastered). Simple things like this can be a taste revelation.

Of course there are some dishes that you may be unfamilar with and some that you may even find rather strange. Organ meats (liver, heart, tripe, sweetbreads) , tete de veau (calves head), snails and such like are rarely eaten in the United States but fairly common in France. If you find this distasteful just ignore it there will be lots of things you recognize and know you like on the menu.

Consider, however, being just a bit adventurous at least once. Go into a cafe for lunch and point at whatever is the day's special (usually displayed on a chalkboard). The worst that will happen is that you can have a good laugh with your friends at home about how odd something like tripe (the lining of a cow's stomach) tasted. Who knows, you may even like it and can then have even more fun urging friends back home to try it.

  4. French cuisine – sometimes elegant, sometimes rustic, and always exquisite – can be intimidating for a beginner to learn. The legendary fare leaves many cooks feeling that they have something to live up to… a certain unattainable elegance and flair for food. Not true. Mastering the art of French cooking is considered by many to be the pinnacle of culinary achievement. It can be done with a few practiced cooking methods, signature ingredients, and just a dash of panache.

For French citizens, location makes a difference in what cuisine is prepared. Metropolitan dwellers are likely to sample a wide array of regional and national dishes, while older, settled adults in rural areas adhere much closer to their native regional food.

Typical French foods rely heavily on regional products. Fresh apples, berries, haricot verts, leeks, mushrooms, and various squash and stone fruits are among the most commonly used produce. Poultry, beef, lamb, and veal are easily available year round; game meat is especially popular and abundant during the hunting season that runs from early autumn to February. No matter the location, France has an abundance of artisan cheese and wine.

Southern France features the rich, sophisticated flavors of mushrooms and duck as well as the dramatic herbs, tomatoes, and olives borrowed from neighboring Mediterranean cuisines. Northern France also showcases a remarkable assortment of tastes, focusing heavily on farmhouse-style specialties using apples, dairy, pork, potatoes, sausage, and beer ...... = )

  5. They  have "croissants" taste good.

  6. stick with...

jambon et fromage  crepes et sandwiches  when you are hopeless

I PROMISE it's worth remembering when you cant find some decent food.

the food is good there just different that's all but some times you have to go back to the basics.

  7. du pain, and de la soupe a fromange.

  8. French Food ;)

    edit:

Seriously, the French are renowned for their cuisine: fresh wholesome ingredients, lots of fresh vegetables - and delicious I have heard. They are famous for their Patisserie shops too. French bread is very nice :)
