I am 6'2 180 lbs, I am pretty athletic and I can run. I play Rugby as well, but this would be my first year trying out for football, so any suggestions would be awesome. Also does anyone know if Rugby cleats are legal in football? I have a set of Mizunos with metal spikes and I'm not sure if I can wear them. THANKS!

  1. Rugby players are pretty good at making contact so you could do well playing safety, or if you plan on gaining weight outside linebacker, or defensive end. To be good at positions like corner and reciever you have to play those positions for most of your life. If you are planning on playing high school football you would be very suitable at quarterback.........If you can throw the ball. Rugby cleats are good enough for football, but they don't provide enough ankle support, and at practice may cause harm to your teammates............Happened to me before. Hope it helps.

  2. It depends on how old you are...if this was high school football, then you could play probably outside line, tight end, or cornerback.

If you're in college then you are more suited for wide reciever or safety...a little too tall for running back :P

  3. Ideal size to be a wide receiver if you have the speed- Im pretty sure the metal cleats are illegal!!

  4. metal spikes are not allowed in any football league (those a soccer cleats you have) they should not be no longer than a inch. If you are in high school you could play outside linebacker, if you have a lot of speed than you could try strong safety.

  5. WR or TE on Offense, LB or DE on defense would be my guess. You should be good with metal spikes, but metal CLEATS (like in Baseball) are a whole different thing

  6. ok your a good size player. but can you take a hit.? the other thing is can you catch and run?  think about being a tight end? or  wide receiver . you could be a good corner back deffence..

  7. water boy

  8. u can wear w/e cleats u want... but um u sound lik u could probly play linebacker or safety... WR depending on how fast you are

  9. For cleats it depends on what area. Metal "Rugby Boots" aren't allowed in my area, however in some places its ok. And in Highschool for your size you could play a variety of positions. Rugby involves kicking/punting so you could excel as either a punter or kicker, but play on offense or defense as well. I'd say you'd be suited for LB at this level. IT takes the core rugby skills and translates to football. Just remember to take time to understand the rules and playbook so you do not mix and match. Good Luck.

  10. The question of position usually is usually determined by your coach, you can have some input but your coachs are the ones that place people in positions.  The cleat question, position depending the height of the cleat should be o.k. the only thing is that they can not be longer than a quarter inch.
