  1. Yes, but remember that SATs, ranks, APs, and extra curriculars count too.

I'm note sure what your situation is but keep in mind that

    - There are better schools than UF in the county. If you have Florida Pre-paid they will still give a nice chunk of money to out-of-state schools and scholarships and financial aid can make it about the same price.

-Other state schools aren't much worse if you don't get into UF. Again, not sure what yo want to do, but it's more difficult to get a business or engineering internship in the Gainesville than Orlando or Tallahassee.

    - The budget cuts are leading to major losses in programs, so keep that in mind.

  2. Do you need a GPA for University of Florida?  3.9 is a good start but there will be other requirements, such as SAT scores etc.

  3. Colleges in the US don't just look at your grades and test scores. They also look into your background as in the question, "What type of person are you?" However, grades are important, and here is a reasonable description. To get into any reasonable college, you need at least a 3.0. To get into a good college, you need at least a 3.5. Anything 3.7 and above means that you work very hard and rank reasonably well in your class, and there would be no reason for a college to reject you just because of your grades, but you need to focus on community service, and emphasize on the application something unique about you. There are thousands if not millions of students who get 3.7 GPAs, but that alone is really really boring. Do you have a special talent in music or arts? Something of that sort would stand out much more than just a 3.7 GPA. Just remember. Just because you have a GPA higher than 3.7 doesn't mean it's more than enough. It's actually NOT enough.
