  1. West Marine have some nice gloves for around $20.

Ask the instructors what they use.

The good ones will have a leather palm with another piece of leather on top on the fingers, around the base of the fingers and inside the thumb area.

I like the 3/4 finger ones with an open back.

    Other gear

Good pair of polarized sun glasses and a hard case to put them in when not used.

    Good book  on sailing basics.

    A hat or visor

    Deck shoes

    Windbreaker

    Long sleeved  t shirt

Sweat pants fo the evening when it gets cooler.

Light hooded sweat shirt, you can always put the windbreaker over it to get warmer.

    Suntan lotion

    Chap stick

Plastic water proof container to keep you wallet and keys in.

Bag to keep your gear in

  2. I have a pair of fingerless Henri Lloyd in leather that have been though at least five seasons of foredeck and mast work. I can't fault the comfort!
