  1. continental is better and if you want lots of spin but is hard to control go semi western

  2. continental, it can provide a kick serve, flat, or spin serve

  3. Continental is the most fundamental grip for a perfect serve.

Add extra full power & ya have an ace, ya score an immediate point.

  4. It depends on what type of serve you are looking to hit. A semi western is good for a kick serve to get top spin on the ball and kick it where you want. A continental grip is good for either a flat or slice serve. Both have more power and less spin, but are often less accurate then a kick. Most players prefer to go with a flat or slice, using a continental grip, on a first serve, then a kick, using a semi western for a second serve. However, doing whatever feels best for you is very important, so try all types and see what works for you.

  5. Continental is the most common ( 85% of all I.T.F players) and best grip for serving.

The continental grip is far more superior in the long run and allows maximum flatness and/or spin.

    From my website: Western Grip

The western grip is accomplished by holding the grip of your racket whilst your knuckles point towards the ground. Your palm should be on the bottom plane of your handle. This grip generates amazing topspin when but must be used in swift brushing movements in a vertical pattern.

    Eastern Grip

This grip is simple. hold the racket as if you are shaking hands with it. it places your palm on the side plane of your handle whilst parallel to the plane of your strings. your wrist should be straight. This is the grip i teach to most juniors and it is the basic grip-style

    Semi-Western Grip

To accomplish this grip pick your racket off the ground and freeze the position. This is the Semi-Western Grip. It is used by most professional players including myself. It allows a balance of power and topspin depending on stroke motion. Your palm should be on the lower right slant bevel.

    Continental Grip

This grip is usually interchanged between shots and is used for Serving, volleying and Slicing. Your palm should be on the upper hand right bevel and 45 degrees counterclockwise from the standard Eastern Grip. This grip requires much practice and perfection is often seen as being able to adjust the angle of the string bed on contact with the ball. This is the most beneficial grip for serving.

-Sorry for the wall of text but i hope this helps.

  6. Continental.

There isn't a situation where a semi-western grip on the serve is acceptable. Players who use a semi-western grip are often those with little experience and tend to *Swat* at the ball on the serve as opposed to pronating correctly. Without pronation you'll hit a very low plateau in your serving potential.

This guy does an ok explanation about pronation in the tennis serve. So check it out, I think pronation is better seen than simply described.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DpptgXq5...

The only other acceptable grip is a semi-eastern grip. It's difficult for beginners to get the timing just right on a continental grip kick serve or slice but opening the face by utilizing a slightly eastern grip can help.

  7. Continental Provide More Power and Spin.

As semi Western only has spin.

Plus Continental Is a much more preferred Grip Rather than Semi Wester.

Semi Western Is a forehand Grip Than a serve.

    Cheers Gordo

  8. semi western all the way
