Question:

What HDMI cable is best?

I have to choose between a 4' RoscketFish cable and a 4' Monster cable. The RocketFish is $65 and the Monster is $99. I have heard good things about both and I don't know if I should pay 100 bucks for a cable.

  1. There is some subtle differences in cables, but as long as you are under 15 feet, not burying the cable in a wall - go for the cheaper cable.

The digital nature of the signals make it indifferent to the quality/price of the cable.

Better - order a Belden cable from www.bluejeanscables.com. It is made with stuff normally sold to broadcast studios and production houses. (The professionals - do not use Monster or RocketFish).

  2. I also agree with Monoprice.com  the cable is just transmitting 1's and 0's and no amount of advertising or mumbo jumbo is gonna change that in any way.  the cable will either work or it won't.  Why spend big moneyu on a cable when something just as good can be bought online for 4.00 to 10.00 for a six foot HDMI cable that is just as good as Monster brand.  Save your money, and if internet shopping is not your thing.  Wal-Mart sells a quality Phillips brand HDMI cable for 20.00

I have internet HDMI cables hooked up to six pieces of gear I own, and I have not had one problem with any of them.  Now think about that.  I have bought six cables at 4.00 or a total of 24.00 (no tax) for the cost of one wal-mart brand and way cheaper than just one Monster brand.

    Save your money.

  3. Some people will try to steer you to a $10 cable. Cables are like anything else, some are good and some are not. The most expensive cable isn't always the best. You should base your purchase on balance. What is the rest of your system like? Is it for your tv? Is the tv 1080p? Is the tv really expensive? The cables I use do make a difference in the picture on my tv. Don't assume the monster is better than the rocketfish because of price.

  4. Since HDMI carries a digital signal, it's either going to work, or it's not.

Because of that, spending tons of money on a HDMI cable just doesn't make any sense.  I've never spent more than $10 on one and they all work just fine.  If you can't find cheap cables at a store near you, try online:

http://monoprice.com  I've bought some stuff from them before, and have been very satisfied with the results.  Their 4-input HDMI switch for $35 beats any of the $300-500 models I've seen in stores.

  5. Use monoprice or CableTrain.com for hdmi cables. They are really inexpensive but work just as good since it is a digital cable.

  6. Monster represents more of name instead of the product. Do your web research, that monster 4' cable I've found many locations much less than $99.

  7. monoprice.com

I payed less than $10 for my hdmi cable and have never had a problem.
