  1. Of the two you listed, I'd go with the Philips because you have a chance of getting parts and service after the warranty runs out. Note, however, Philips/Magnavox (same mfg.) is bottom of the barrel in name brand TVs - just too many consumer complaints.

Insignia is house brand, cheapo, third tier, disposable TV. After the warranty runs out (and maybe even before - lol), you'll probably never be able to get parts and service! Read this about the cheap no-name brands like Insignia, Element, Dynex, Polaroid, and Vizio - http://www.hdguru.com/your-new-disposabl...

In 40"-46" LCD, your best bet, dollar for dollar, for BOTH performance and reliability is the Panasonic Viera plasma, which will meet your budget. If you specifically want an LCD, perhaps because you will use it a bunch for gaming, top rated in performance and reliability over 37"  are Sony Bravia; Toshiba Regza; Sharp Aquos; and Samsung. If you can't afford one of these, best wait and save up a little more and buy quality!

  2. pioner is good quality

  3. The one with the largest amount of pixels will be a better picture quality. also the contrast ratio wants to be as high as possible to give the most lifelike image. At 42" plasma TVs are better than LCD so maybe going for a plasma TV would be another option.

    Hope that helped
