  1. A catalytic converter can cause decreased power out put if it is clogged. That would be like having a clogged or partially clogged exhaust. If it is faulty your car will be a gross pollution emitter in addition to having loss of power. (cough,cough)

  2. Your cat is bad have had them plug up> looses power or won't run at all> So remove it and try it then you will know  1>

  3. Depends what engine you have! The ones on newer vehicle can reach $1000. If you drive with a plugged cat, then you run the risk of burning your valves, pistons, and o2 sensors.

  4. your exhaust emmision go all wrong and the cost will be about £ 250

    but you should shop around first

  5. Your cat converter has nothing to do with engine output, powerwise.  All the converter does is to remove chemicals from the exhaust.

    If you're losing power, something else is the matter.

  6. The cat has nothing whatsoever to do with power. It is theoretically to remove pollutants, and was the biggest motoring con ever in Europe. When we imported the idea from California (where else?) the only ran at above an ambient temperature of 68deg F. Work that out.

    If the outer case of the cat is broken then what's happening is the back-pressure has changed, causing the engine run poorly.

    I removed my cat 3 years ago, passes the MoT fine.

  7. unlike bartsbra who knows nothing about a car other than put gas in it and go.the cat when clogged will stop the engine from running to speed.it will feel like the car wants to go but wont.have it checked before doing any other damage to your emmissions system-o2 sensors.

  8. Pretty reasonable these days;
