Im looking at making a replica Masterchief helmet and was wondering what I should use. I have a paper model made usind pepakura. Now would be the time to add resin to it to make it strong, but one problem.... its so ive heard, toxic. I want to harden the model as much as possible without toxins. I am aware of 405th.com, which is where ive been getting info. I want it to be fairly inexpensive. Any ideas?

  1. Unfortunately, most any plastic resin you can use will be relatively toxic. If you take the right precautions (work in a well-ventilated area, wear gloves & a respirator), then it's really not anything to worry about.

If you're looking for something to coat the paper with to make it more durable, shellac or water-based varnish are fairly safe, though you'll need several coats and lots of time to build up any real rigidity.
