  1. lol the guy above me is a r****d

finish high school and college/university then go to flight school

the number of airplanes in the sky will double by 2020

  2. Get a degree in an appropriate subject, do your PPL, and get a massively overinflated ego.  I think these are handed out with the licence!!

  3. The FAA has a page with a lot of information on it:

    http://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/

The first answer is in fact, incorrect.  (By the way, FO + First Officer = Co-pilot)

Many of the current airline pilots are in fact military but they are getting ready to retire so there is a need for new pilots.  Less pilots leave the military now to fly for the airlines, so you will do just fine.

It's impossible to say how long it will take to become a Captain.  It depends on the airline and pure luck.  Two of my friends started flying for ExpressJet at the same time.  One became a Captain over two years before the other and they were only separated by one number of seniority.

As FOs at ExpressJet they made less than the kids flipping burgers at McDonalds.  No, really.  And that was flying jets.  The money you make will also depend on the airline you fly for, so any answers you get on here really won't mean a thing.  Talk to people who fly.  Pilots love to talk about the good, bad and ugly parts of their jobs.  Search on here and you'll get some eye opening answers about what a day in the life is like for a new pilot versus one who has his/her choice of lines.

Anyway, start at the FAA website and go from there.

    Good luck!

  4. with the commercial airlines cutting the number of flights the need for pilots is decreasing. A majority of the pilots are military trained.  The airlines prefer them because the have requisite number of flight hours.  There are no FO, just the

captain and copilot. Do some research and make sure this is the field you want to enter.  You should email the Allied Pilots Association.  This is the pilots union and you will get the best information.  My spouse is a retire Captain.
