    Do you mean the country called Ireland (sometimes known as the Republic of Ireland)?

    If so, and you are a UK citizen, the ferry companies will accept photographic ID, though often they do not check at all.

    Immigration might need a passport, in certain circumstances and depending on what nationality you are.

If you are travelling from the UK You'll just need regular photo ID like  a driver's licence or a passport -from the Continent you'll need a passport as for some bizarre reason Ireland and the UK did not see fit to sign up to the Schengen treaty allowing free travel-hope that helps & enjoy your trip!
