Question:

What If... Christian Had Won the World Heavyweight or WWE Title?

New hypothetical. People often talk about how hot Christian was getting previously to his departure from the WWE. Of course, the push - which supposedly everyone wanted - never came.

So, what if Mr. Cage - who wouldn't have had the Cage in his name if this situation had taken place - had won the title before his contract expired? What if he told Vince to stick his job but, as he was walking out the door, he was offered the oppurtunity of a lifetime?

When would he have won the title? Was it coming to him and he was just impatient? What would the wrestling landscape be like if he had? What storylines could have been had? Could we even have some more WrestleMania memories?

I believe that the unforeseen effect would be what would become of T.N.A.. Without Christian, T.N.A. probably would have pushed Angle and Joe to the title quicker. Jeff Jarrett might have continued his in ring work to the present. The most important change, in my opinion, would be the change in A.J. Styles. I think that he wouldn't have made the progress that he has made. Of course he would still be a great in ring worker, but I think that his character and mic work wouldn't be as good as they are today. T.N.A.'s growth as a whole would probably be at least a little bit stunted.

  1. Christian Cage is one of the great talker in the WWE...he is charismatic,he has skills in wrestling..!!! but WWE didnt gave him a chance...But if he Won the WWE championship/World heavyweight Champ...it would be great for WWE....Edge vs. Christian TLC MATCH would be great...!!..

  2. he most likely would have been booked has a transitional champ

  3. Cage was on his way to world title status in my opinion.  He and Jericho had a shot against Cena at a PPV, I forget which, but it was a 3 way dance. and (since I can't quit calling him Cage) Reso did not win.  Not long after, he was sent to Smackdown! and jobbed to Batista in either a World or Number 1 Contender's match, and when I say job, I mean he was flat out squashed.  Cage didn't stick around long after that, and as soon as he left, Batista was put on the shelf, and Eddie Guerrero died.  A lot of people believe that Reso would've been the star to push during that time, if he had stuck around.  I know that's a morbid concept, but it's a true one.

I don't think he would have left if he were shown any promise of evolution or maybe even a little control over how he's perceived on camera.  For most of his career, Christian played sidekick.  If it wasn't to Edge, it was to Jericho, or Diamond Dallas Page, and when he did finally get that singles nod, they turned him into the whipping boy all over again.

How would the TNA landscape have been different?  Well, he was there a year before Angle showed up, and his presence really took the shine off of Rhino.  I'd have to believe that Rhino would have been pushed further.  It's obvious when they brought him in that TNA had faith in Rhino.  In his first night within the company, he won three matches, including one for the world title.  And who knows?  Maybe Monty Brown would've finally had a time with the title.  People seem to forget how dominant that guy was, but it was an off-and-on dominance that was occasionally halted by the newest acquisition of the week.  Mark my words, Monty Brown could've been the Goldberg of TNA, and that IS a compliment.  I agree, AJ wouldn't have progressed as much, or at least not under the tutilage of Cage.  I think he still had plenty of mic heavy guys, like Jim Cornette and Sting to mentor him though, and it's no secret that AJ's the company golden boy, they're just smarter than WWE about pushing someone down our throat (Angle doesn't count, he has creative control).  I think Jarrett would have hiatused around the same time period.  His wife's death also plays a big factor in his wrestling career.  He kind of lost the love for a short span of time, because she was the life force in TNA to him.

Anyway, that's my theories, and I'm stickin' to'em

  4. it would be better he deserved one

  5. He has stated in interviews that sure, the direction his character was taking was one of the reasons he left, but it wasn't THE MAIN reason he left. He has said that the main reason he left the WWE in the first place was because "he wasn't having fun anymore". I'm not sure exactly what this entails but there you go.

I'm not really sure the way things were going during the end of his WWE run that Christian Cage was being pushed to win any top championship. First of all, he was drafted to SmackDown!, which was the B-show, so a step backwards. Second of all, once he came to SmackDown! he was not involved in any major feud; I mean, he jobbed to Batista and JBL, for God's sake. Last of all, the very last time he was ever mentioned on WWE was when he was one of the candidates to be in a match against Edge and Chris Masters at Taboo Tuesday; not exactly a huge push.

Anyway, I think for TNA there would have been two major implications had Christian Cage not left for them.

The first implication would be that they would not have gained as much attention as if Christian Cage had indeed jumped ship. Christian, no matter your opinion of him, was VERY OVER with the fans and was thus one of the most popular young wrestlers of the day. Tenay and West were not exaggerating when they said he was TNA's biggest acquisition thus far, and his debut in TNA exposed his followers in WWE to a whole new environment and a side of wrestling they had never seen before.

The second implication, which is related to the first one, although I'm only speculating here, would be that former WWE stars such as Kurt Angle and Booker T would have less of a reason to go to TNA after their WWE release. Christian was a very underrated superstar in the WWE who was denied top gold, and yet upon his TNA debut he was an automatic main-eventer, getting his first World Title with the company just four months after he jumped ship. I think other wrestlers who were underutilized by the WWE saw Christian as an example, and deduced that if the WWE couldn't give them the push they deserved, TNA could.

  6. nobody would have watch WWE

  7. That would be great but he could only have it for 1 month because of Vince not thinking him as main event status.
