  1. A Freight Conductor is useful to the Engineer in determining weather the train is going up or down hill. A Grade Detector in other words. When the Engineer looks over and sees the Conductors chin on his chest, he knows the train is going down a grade. Like wise, when his head leans way back, the train is going up the hill.

  3. Note to Michael, conductors also have other uses, in certain cases they can be used as accelerometers. same principal applies: head forward slowing down, head back accelerating.

    I have heard of prototypes that can be used for watching for signals etc but so far the optic sensors have been defective and the devices go back their default mode at dark.
