  1. Fondant is an icing that you roll out.  The consistency is similar to clay.  It will give the cake a very smooth, professional-looking finish.  You don't need to use it unless you want to, and it may take a little bit of practice to get it on the cake smoothly if you do decide to use it.

  2. fondant is basically a thick icing that can be shaped to form different shapes on cakes and other desserts

  3. if you don't even know what it is...i would defiantly tell you do some research about it before you ever try to use it. it's kinda difficult to work with the first few times!

  4. It's like a sheet of PlayDoh made of sugar.

    No, don't need it.

  5. Fondant is a type of "icing" which is usually used for wedding cakes.  Fondant does well in warmer weather.  After fondant is applied to a cake, it should not be places in the refrigerators as the fondant will sweat when it is taken out.  Fondant keeps a cake fresh longer also.  Fondant is also used to make designs and cutouts to decorate cakes with as it is sturdy and can be eaten. You do not need fondant to make a cake, as you can use buttercream, ganache, etc as icing as well.
