Question:

What Is My Vision According to This RX?

Can anyone tell me what my vision was from this eyeglass prescription? I just had laser surgery and would like to compare my new vision to my old. The RX was:

Right -1.00 -1.00 X173

Left -1.50 -1.0 X54

And if you can answer it, can you explain how you figured it out?

Thanks

  1. There's no direct conversion to a 20/xx or 6/x format, since it depends on a variety of factors, not least your pupil size.

(look in the distance through a 1mm pinhole in a piece of paper held close to the eye, and suddeny you'll see a lot better...)

If you have eyes that will correct to 20/20 or a bit better, and average pupils and not extremely narrowed lids, I'd *guess* at unaided vision of Rt 20/60, Lt 20/80.

Not really vision to drive with, without glasses or contacts.

(but it would get better on a bright day and and worse at night)

It's just a guestimate from many years of experience.

  2. There is no way to know your visual acuity from your RX.  Here is a link to a website that approximates your visual acuity based on your RX.  I know my visual acuity and this site was correct about it.
